I repeat. What was holding him back after Dumbledore's fall was not magic, but horror and shock. Also, at the end of the next chapter, the book says Harry knew Fawkes had left, and since he has a connection with that bird, I highly doubt that he was wrong. So that's yet another hole in your theory. Also, note that I stressed he fell over the battlements. I repeat: DUMBLEDORE IS DEAD!
