Don't think that Slytherin's are all bad. I mean, given what Sirius told us of his family we can assume that Phineas Nigellus was a Slytherin too. OK, so he was possibly the least popular head-master of Hogwarts, but he was still a head so we can assume he wasn't a bad guy. Ambition isn't wrong, as long as it doesn't control us.
