Snape must have told Dumbledor about his unbreakable vow to Bellatrix and when the moment came, Snape and Dumbledor had that "connection" between them... I forgot how J.K.R. worded it. Essentially a look informed Snape of what he HAD to do.
Anyway, I think "Snivelis" Snape tries to hard at being evil to really be evil.

This doesn't really prove anything because, if you remember, Snape says, "No!...Have you forgotten our orders? Potter belongs to the Dark Lord -- we are to leave him!Go!Go!" I think this shows that the only reason he did not kill Potter was because Voldemort didn't want him to
